Breast cancer and the men

Breast cancer in men is rare, and the risk is less than 1: 100 compared to women. In 2004, it is estimated that 1,450 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and 470 will die from it. Breast cancer in men may present with nipple discharge (usually bloody), nipple inversion, breast lump, and occasionally, local pain, itching and pulling sensation. The prognosis and survival in male breast cancer is comparable to female breast cancer, stage by stage, however male breast cancer is usually detected at a later stage compared to the female breast cancer. Treatment of breast cancer is also similar to treatment for female patients and usually includes a combination of surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and/or hormone therapy like tamoxifen.
