Cancer terms: Recurrence: Return of cancer after a period of remission. Example: Ms. B had breast cancer in 1990 and had undergone surgery. For about 14 years she had no evidence of breast cancer. Now Ms. B is having a recurrence of breast cancer. Recurrence can be local recurrence if cancer had recurred at the original site, and is said to have distant recurrence if the cancer comes back at a different place from its original appearance.
